Endometriosis in uterus

Fertility Clinic Treatment Options for Endometriosis

Fertility CliniEndometriosis is a condition that takes place when uterine tissue is found outside the uterus, typically somewhere in the abdominal region. It can lead to painful inflammation and scarring throughout the pelvis and abdomen – and even worse, cause infertility. If you are suffering from endometriosis, here are some potential treatment options our Allen fertility clinic may be able to offer.

Pain Medication

If you have only mild pain and minor symptoms, then your doctor may just recommend you take over-the-counter pain medications. However, if your condition is severe, you may need to take anti-inflammatory drugs. In certain instances, non-steroidal drugs known as opioids or NSAIDS may be prescribed.

Hormonal Treatments

Hormone therapy is sometimes effective when treating endometriosis symptoms. It could come in the form of a pill, an injection, a shot or even a nasal spray. This type of treatment typically stops the ovaries from producing estrogen and other hormones in order to reduce pain and slow the growth of endometrial lesions. There can be mild side effects, however, including bloating, weight gain and bleeding.

Laparoscopic Surgery

Our Frisco fertility clinic will strive to investigate all possible non-surgical options when treating a patient with endometriosis. However, there are instances where a form of surgery known as laparoscopy may be needed. This procedure includes the use of an instrument that slightly inflates the abdomen. Then, a small device known as a laparoscope is inserted into the abdomen so the doctor can see any growths that have occurred. Small incisions are then made in order to either remove the lesions or destroy them with heat.
